The following is a press release by the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, explaining how the website of the Presidency was hacked. “On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, some national media as well as cyber newspapers and numerous social networks, relayed a news in which the official website of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, would have presented the Head of State paying tribute to our soldiers who died on the battlefield against the Boko Haram terrorist organization during the corps removal ceremony of the murdered soldiers which took place at the Honor Courtyard of the Brigade Headquarters on Friday March 6, 2015 in Yaoundé.
The Minister of Communication hereby categorically refutes such ungrounded news.
In fact, this ceremony took place at a time when the entire national community is aware that the Head of State had left the country on Sunday March 1, 2015 for a private stay in Europe where he is still to date.
It is on Very High Instructions of His Excellency, the President of the Republic that the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, chaired on his behalf, the memorial service of last March 06, 2015.
After carrying out thorough checks, it appears that the false news attributed to the official website of the Presidency of the Republic is the result of a blunt digital photo collage of a hacker who broke on that site, and who was undoubtedly motivated by the desire to undermine the honor and dignity of the Head of State, that of our defense and security forces and of the Cameroonian nation as a whole.
This evil manoeuvre comes in a time when the nation and the entire Cameroonian people have decided to build a sacred union behind the Head of State, Commander-in-Chief of the army and the defence and security forces, to probably divert and distract, to try to bring down the morale of the troops on the war front and demobilize the entire nation in its marvellous demonstration of solidarity.
The Minister of Communication therefore invites journalists and national media to remain more concentrated and vigilant, to make more use of their sense of criticism and citizenship responsibility in the perception and treatment of certain information they might come across, particularly when those information concern the strategic domain of State defence and Security”
